Es
Baluard
Es Baluard, recently restored, houses Palma´s Museum of the
Modern and Contemporary Art. The gallery has become one of the citu´s
culture references and must to visit, in addition to the driving
force behind the area around Plaça Porta de Santa Catalina.
The result, flanked by a breathtaking selection of sculpture, is
an architectural entity that mixes modern architecture with the
old, giving the visitor the chance to enjoy on of the islands major
collections of art and at the same time marvellous views of the
Palma harbour, which opens up before us as we gaze over it from
yhe splendid terrace of this ambitious, yet welcoming, gallery.
Museu de Majorca
Housed in what was once the house of the Count of Ayamans, the museum
displays collections of Archaeology. Fine Art and Decorative Art,
as well as amagnificent collection to the Luliana Archaeological
Society.
Museu Diocesá
Temporaily housed in St.Peter´s Chapel, in the casa de la
iglesia-the old seminary. Display of works of art from the cathedral
and churches and the monasteries of Majorca: Gothic, Renaissance
an Baroque paintings and sculpture, silver and decorative art.
Casa Museu J.Torrens Lladó
This gallery was opened in 2002 and exhibits both the house of the
painter J.Torrens Lladó, as it was when he lived here and
over 100 of his paintings. There are also temporary exhibtion rooms.
Can Marqués
This part of the building, which was previously joined to number
2 of the same street, conserves many Modernist details that are
to be seen in the decoration of the courtyard and teh stairway,
which is the part of the original 17th century courtyard that has
been most subject to change. At present the house can be visit as
a museum.
Fundació Pillar i Joan Miró
Has a major collection of Works by Joan Miró, as well as
holding temporay exhibitions.
Museu Militar de Sant Carles
The defensive fortifaction of the harbour of porto pi, St. Carles
Castle, was built in the 18th century. The museum was opende in
1981 and has a collection of war and military items ranging chronologically
from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
